Osmoregulation in Plant - Topic 1 Flashcards
What is stomata?
Is a pore found in the epidermis that regulates gas exchange between the plant and environment and control water loss.
What are epiderms?
The plant epidermis is a protective tissue that covers the entire surface of the plant.
They provide a protective barrier against mechanical injury, water loss and infection.
What are guard cells?
Guard cells are cells surrounding each stoma. They help regulate the rate of transpiration by opening and closing the stomata.
Where light is the main trigger for the opening or closing
What is a hydrophyte?
A plant that grows either partly or totally submerged in water
What is a mesophyte?
A plant needing only a moderate amount of water
What is xerophyte?
