Feedback Loops - Topic 1 Flashcards
What is the role of feedback loops?
They allow living organisms to maintain homeostasis
How is communication achieved?
Communication is achieved by hormonal (endocrine) and nervous system working together using feedback loops
What is negative feedback loop?
Negative feedback occurs when a system’s output acts to reduce or dampen the processes that lead to the output of that system, resulting in less output.
In general, negative feedback loops allow systems to self-stabilize and is a vital control mechanism for the body’s homeostasis.
What is positive feedback loop?
In a positive feedback loop, feedback serves to intensify a response until an endpoint is reached.
Examples of negative feedback?
body temperature regulation and control of blood glucose
Examples of positive feedback?
blood clotting and childbirth.
