Oscillations and Waves - Oscillation of Pendulums Flashcards
1
Q
pendulum
A
- a mass at the end of a string or thin rod or stick; the mass at the end, the “bob,” has to be much heavier than the string or stick. In many ways, it is similar to a mass on a spring. When the pendulum is stationary, the mass hangs at its Equilibrium Position EP. If you pull it away from it, a force (gravity) tries to pull it back to the EP. When it gets there, it is in motion, so it overshoots, which leads to an oscillation.
