Optics - Convex Lens with Real Image Flashcards

Q
convex lens with real image
A
- We learned that an Object at a distance do from a lens of focal length f will form an Image at a distance di given by the Thin Lens Equation:
- If the lens is convex, and the Object is farther away than the Focal Point F, the rays will cross on the other side to form a “Real Image.” The image will be flipped over or “inverted.”
- The Thin Lens equation is a little tricky to use, because the numbers are all inverted; they are all 1 over the number. When you solve it, you get a number that is 1 over the answer; to get the answer, you have to invert that. Use the x-1 button on your calculator if you have one, or take 1 divided by the number.
- In this lesson, di will always be positive. If you get a negative number, you’ve made a mistake. (di can be negative, though; we’ll talk about that in a future lesson.) Also, di will be a number bigger than 1. If you get a really small number, you probably forgot to take the inverse at the end.
