What is the scoring system?
A
Index of orthodontic treatment need (IOTN) is used to determine whether orthodontic treatment can be provided via NHS or if the patient needs to seek treatment privately

A
Classification of occlusion, overjet + overbite, presence + location of crowding, presence of any retained deciduous teeth, any peculiarities (rotations, spacing, uneruption), IOTN Score

IOTN score
A
always recorded as a number 1-5 indicating degree of severity e.g 4D indicates tooth displacement from the arch + 5A indicates large overjet

Assessment needs
A
- orthodontic assessment sheet
- mouth mirror for viewing
- measuring ruler to record overjet / overbite
- alginate impression items for study models
- pink wax - record current occlusal bite so study model can be trimmed + set up
- film packets/cassette + revenant holding to view hard copy dental radiographs
