Q

method of introspection.

A

participants were presented with a carefully controlled stimulus. eg visual image or tickling metronome. these are standardised.
they’re then asked to provide a detailed description of their inner processes. these findings were used to spread light on human consciousness.

Q

how did Wundt contribute to society.

A

he did research in controlled conditions, and used emperial method. this encouraged other psychologists, such as behaviouralists to follow this approach.
he also had an effect on psychologists in regards to the cognitive approach.

Q

what’s the criticism to introspection.

A

the approach of introspection is subjective, therefore isn’t quite as scientific as its supposed to be. this can’t be verified because only observable behaviours can be objectively measured, not someones conscious mental thoughts.
its unreliable because subject reports differed to the same stimulus, so wundts results couldn’t be replicated.
