Control radiates from centre and from a few specific people
Few rules and regulations - employees judged on what they achieve not how they achieve it
Swift decisions are possible - although not always possible in the long terms
Role
People have clear delegated authorities within a structure
Hierarchical bureaucracy
Power derives from a persons position
Little scope exists for expert power
Task
Teams are formed to solve particular problems
No single power source
Matrix organisation
Team may develop own objectives
Person
People believe themselves to be superior to the business
Business full of people with similar training and expertise
Common in firms of professionals
Power lies in each group of individuals
