its a key factor when managing a business as it determines how a business responds to external factors, how people within the business relate to one another and how the company adapts to change

what is delegation and what are its benefits?
delegation is the process of authority passing down through the organisation. It can be beneficial as it may lighten the workload of peronnel as the organisation grows and can be a key aspect of job design as it leads to job enrichment to junior members of staff
What does chain of command refer to?
refers to the levels in the hierarchy
What does span of control refer to?
refers to a number of employees that a manager is directly responsible for
What does a ‘tall’ organisation structure tend to have?
many levels in the chain of command and there may be a narrow span of control
What does a ‘flat’ organisation structure tend to have?
few levels of chain in command. span of control for managers at the top may tend to be wide
When may a ‘tall’ organisation structure be useful?
- When job roles are more specific
- Less flexible
