What is the function of human resources?
Human resources is the function of a business that makes sure employees are doing their jobs effectively so that it meets the needs of their business and its customers
What does effectively managing human resources allow for a business to do?
- control costs of production
- add value through expertise and customer service
- ensure employees are driven and motivated
What are the two competing human resource perspectives?
Hard HRM - refers to the managers who see employees as just another resource who needs to be utilised efficiently and effectively
Soft HRM - refers to managers who see people as the most valuable asset a business has, therefore they need to be natured and developed to their full potential
What may be some human resource objectives?
- ensuring talent in organisation is developed to its full potential
- ensure there is diversity (gender,disability , ethnicity, religion)
- Labour productivity / maximising output per worker
State some internal and external influences on HR objectives
Social factors - employees values much match the consumers (ethical consumers)
Economic factors - May be difficult to employ the right workers when there is a lack of skill in that certain market
The product - Labour intensive work may require a higher skill level of workers
