What is the trait theory?
belief that leaders and managers hold certain traits that distinguish them from other people.
Argument against trait theory?
one argument against the trait theory may be that some successful leaders do not share similar traits
What is the behavioural theory of leadership?
theory suggests that there is an appropriate style of management or leadership determined by the context, situation and nature of the task.
What is the Blake and Moulton grid?
a grid that identifies a number of approaches to leadership based on the extent to which a manager is focused on the concern for production and concern for people.
High concern for people low concern for production?
-relaxed working environment, manager concerned with relationships and motivation of employees. May not get work done.
High concern for production low concern for people?
- Driven by targets and getting things done.
- cares little for well being and feelings of employees
High concern for people high concern for production?
-Theoretically should be successful, employees feel involved and have a stake in the success of the business.
