Describe the accessory (spinal) nerve pathway

A

spinal division = C1-4 > vertebal canal within dural > foramen magnum > merges briefly with cranial division > jugular foramen > sternoid-cleido-mastoid and trapezium muslce

Q

Describe the trigeminal nerve pathway

mandibular division

A

pons>trigeminal ganglion>foramen ovale> mandibular foramen > mental foramen

Q

Describe the Facial nerve pathway

A

Pons > internal auditory meatus > facial canal > stylomastoid foramen (motor branch) muscles of face.

Parasympathetic - submandibular and sublingual glands of face, anterior 2/3 of the tongue, ear (tympanic membrane, stapedius muscle), mastoid and temporal areas

Q

Describe the pathway of the Spinal accessory nerve

A

Arises from C1-4 >passes up inside the vertebral canal > foramen magnum> breifly joins the cranial division passing back out to jugular foramen > down to sternoid cleiod mastoid and trapezium
