CONTRAINDICATIONs
ondansetron
- HYPERSENSITIVITY
- congenital long QT syndrome
- phenylketonuria (PKU) - may contain aspartame which should be avoided - injection is safe
- 1st trimester pregnancy - ☎️ cliniCALL required
Indigenous higher prevalence of long QT syndrome - use GRAVOL
Dosage - Adult
ondansetron
PCP
4mg PO - ODT
single dose, ODT - ondansetron disintegrating tablet
Dosage - Pediatric
ondansetron
PCP
6 months - 4 y/o - 2mg PO
4 y/o and up - 4mg PO
single dose
Pharmacodynamic
ondansetron
selectively inhibits type 3 serotonergic receptors = nausea supression
Pharmacokinetics
ondansetron
PO
onset - 15-30
peak - 30-120mins
duration - 3-4hrs
Warnings // Precautions
ondansetron
closely monitor pts for signs of respiratory depression, CNS effects
esp. elderly pts, or w/ hepatic renal failure
ADVERSE EFFECTs
ondansetron
- hypotension
- depression // aggitation
