CONTRAINDICATIONs
ASA

- HYPERSENSITIVITY (to ASA or other NSAIDs)
- hx bronchospasm/other respiratory distress precipitated by ASA//NSAIDs
- ACTIVE//recent bleeding of any kind - head injury, stroke, peptic ulcer disease
- PEDIACTRICs presenting with viral symptoms consistent w/ REYES’s SYNDROME

Inhibits the formation of thromboxane A2 which is a potent platelet aggregate and vasoconstrictor
- antiplatelet effects are IRREVERSIBLE - lasts for the life of platelets ~7-10 days

- tinnitus

Warnings // Precautions

- should NOT be used in PEDIATRICs/young adults w/ - chicken pox, influenza, or ILI — RISK of developing REYE’s SYNDROME
- ETOH use = increase RISK for GI bleeding
REYE’s SYNDROME - encephalopathy, acute liver damage
