  • Anatagonist at multiple receptor sites, particularly serotonin (5-HT), Dopamine, and Histamine

What are some precautions of Olanzapine?

A
  1. May be less effective if patients agitation is due to drug intoxication (especially stimulants) or alcohol withdrawal
  2. Elderly/Frail patients and children are more susceptible to adverse effects

What are some adverse effects of Olanzapine?

A

CNS: Sedation, Dizziness
Other: Extrapyramidal symptoms and QT prolongation are unlikely when administered at hte approved doses
