What are the pharmacodynamics of Methoxyflurane?

  • Interferes with release and re-uptake of neurotransmitters at post-synaptic terminals
  • Activates inhibitory receptor (GABA)
  • Induces muscle relaxation

Methoxyflurane Contraindications?

A
  • Pre-existing renal disease (Transforms into fluoride -> reduced kidney function leads to build up of Fluoride -> inhibition of tubular reabsorption -> disruption to collagen synthesis -> Renal damage
  • Malignant Hyperthermia (Anaesthetics can induced Fatal Hyperthermia, rigid muscles/spasms
