Pharmacodynamics of Midazolam
A
Binds to GABA receptors -> Increases Cl- into the cell -> leads to hyperpolarization -> leads to neural inhibition

Midazolam Contraindications
A
- Hypersensitivity

Midazolam precautions
A
- Redued dose required for hte elderly, frail, renal failure, CCF, or shock
- CNS depressant effects of benzo are enhanced in the presence of narcotics and alcohol
- Can cause severe respiratory depression in patients with COPD
- Patients with myasthenia gravis (Due to weak muscles and ability for midazolam to depress respiratory muscles)

- Depression level of consciousness
- Respiratory depression
- Loss of airway control
- Hypotension
