A
- Bind to Kappa, Mu receptors
- Mimics action of opioid peptides and antagonises to stimulate pain centres in CNS and spinal cord

A
- Hypersensitivity
- Renal Impairment/failure
- Late second stage labour

- Hypotension
- Respiratory Depression
- Current Asthma

- Known Addiction to opioids

- Patients on MAOIs

A
CNS: Drowsiness, respiratory depression, Euphoria, N+V, Addiction, Pin-point pupiles
Cardiovascular: Hypotension, Bradycardia

Why is Morphine contraindicated in renal Impairment?
A
- Accumulation of Metabolites M3G and M6G mediates CNS depression and wont be cleared quick enough in renally impaired patients

Why is morphine contraindicated in late second stage labour?
A
- Can cross the placental barrier and cause a baby to be born apnoeic
