Q

What is the reactionary gap and why is it important to maintain?

A

The reactionary gap is the gap between the officer and the subject. It is ideally at least 6 feet, so the subject has to take at least one step to reach the officer, giving them time to react. The officer should attempt to maintain the reactionary gap at all times, unless are stepping into to gain physical control.
