Define the word Attitude?
Evaluative statements about objects, people or events which reflect how one feels about something
Which three components of attitudes are there?
Cognitive component: Belief in the way things are
Affective component: emotional or feeling segment of an attitude
Behavioral component: an intention to behave in a certain way
What is Cognitive dissonance?
Any incompatibility an individual might perceive between two or more attitudes
What are the most powerful moderators of attitudes relationships?
The importance of the attitude Correspondence to behavior Its accessibility Social pressures Whether or not a person has direct experience with the attitude.
Which attitudes are most important for OB?
Job satisfaction
Job involvement: feeling psychologically identified with the job.
Organizational commitment
Perceived organizational support(POS): the idea that the organization values the employer and cares about his well-being.
Employee engagement: the individual’s involvement with, satisfaction with and enthusiasm for the work one does.
Which dimensions holds organizational commitment?
Affective commitment: Emotional attachment and believe in its values
Continuance commitment: perceived economic value
Normative commitment: Obligation to remain for moral or ethical reason (they can’t do it without me)
What is Job satisfaction?
A positive feeling about a job resulting from an evaluation of its characteristics.
Which two commonly used methods of measuring job satisfaction are there?
Single global rating: Responding to a simple question with a scale of 1 to 5. (provide the least time)
Summation of job facets: Scoring 1 to 5 of different facets and summarizing this, all on a standardized scale. (provides the chance to zoom in on facets)
Explain the ‘exit-voice-loyalty-neglect’-framework
Framework for understanding the consequences of dissatisfaction
- Exit: Behavior toward leaving the company
- Voice: Actively attempting to improve conditions
- Loyalty: Passively waiting for improvements
- Neglect: Allowance of things to worsen
