OBH Chapter 12 Flashcards
What is leadership?
The ability to influence a group toward the achievement of a vision or a set of goals.
What is the difference between leadership and management?
Leadership is about coping with change, Management is about order and consistency and monitoring results
Explain the Fiedler model
This model proposes that effective group performance depends on the proper match between the leader's style and the degree to which the situation gives the leader control. In order to do this, Fiedler identified four steps to follow. o Identifying leader style, either task or relationship oriented leader o Defining the situation based on three characteristics - Leader-member relations - Task structure - Position power o Matching leaders and situation - Task-oriented leaders - Relationship leaders o Evaluation if not well, either - Change the situation to the leader - Change the leader to the situation
What is the leader-member exchange theory
A theory that suggests some members have more affiliation/affection with the leader than others, caused by whatever reasons.
What is Charismatic leadership theory
This theory suggests that followers attribute heroic or extraordinary leadership abilities when they see a certain behavior.
Explain the transformational leadership theory
The theory suggests leaders can inspire followers to transcend their self-interest for the good of the organization. These are differential from transactional leaders(like Fiedler’s model) Which guide their followers to achieving a goal.
What is authentic leadership
Leaders know who they are, know their beliefs and values and openly act on these. This way, they build trust and will be considered ethical. Socialized charismatic leadership is one that conveys other centered values by leaders who model ethical trust.
