O & I Superfical Back Flashcards
Origin: Rhomboid Major
Spinous Process of T2-T5 vertebrae
Insertion: Rhomboid Major
Medial border of the scapula from the level of spine to inferior angle
Innervation: Rhomboid Major
Dorsal Scapular Nerve (C4, C5)
Actions: Rhomboid Major
Retracts scapula & rotates its glenoid cavity inferiorly & fixes scapula to thoracic wall
Origin: Rhomboid Minor
Nuchal ligament & Spinous processes of C7 and T1 Vertebrae
Insertion: Rhomboid Minor
Smooth triangular area at the medial end of scapular spine
Innervation: Rhomboid Minor
Dorsal Scapular Nerve (C4, C5)
Actions: Rhomboid Minor
Retracts scapula & Rotates its glenoid cavity inferiorly, & fixes scapula to thoracic wall
Origin: Latissimus Dorsi
Thoracolumbar fascia of the inferior 6 thoracic, all lumbar, and sacral spinous processes, outer lip of iliac crest, and inferior 3-4 ribs
Insertion: Latissimus Dorsi
Floor of bicipital groove (intertuberculuar sulcus) on the humerus
**may sometimes attach to inferior angle of scapula
Innervation: Latissimus Dorsi
Thoracodorsal nerve (C6, C7, C8) from the posterior cord of the brachial plexus
Actions: Latissimus Dorsi
Extends, medially (internally) rotates, and adducts the humerus. Raises body towards arms during climbing.
Origin: Trapezius
Medial 1/3 of superior nuchal line, external occipital protuberance, nuchal ligament, & spinous processes of C7-T12
Insertion: Trapezius
Lateral 1/3 of clavicle, acromion process, & spine of scapula
Innervation: Trapezius
Spinal Accessory Nerve (CN XI: motor) & C3 and C4 (pain and proprioception)
Action: Trapezius
Superior (descending fibers): elevate scapula/shoulders maintaining level of shoulders against gravity or resistance
Middle fibers: retract scapula
Inferior fibers (ascending fibers): depress scapula/shoulders
Superior & Inferior fibers together: rotate the glenoid cavity of the scapulae superiorly; with shoulders fixed, bilateral contraction extends the neck; unilateral contraction produces lateral flexion to the same side
Origin: Levator Scapula
Posterior tubercles of transverse processes of C1-C4 vertebrae
Insertion: Levator Scapula
Medial border of scapula superior to the root of the scapular spine
Innervation: Levator scapula
Dorsal scapular nerve (C4, C5) & Cervical (C3, C4) nerves
Action: Levator Scapula
Elevates scapula & rotates its glenoid cavity inferiorly by rotating scapula
