O & I Shoulder, Posterior arm, & Pectoral Region Flashcards
Serratus Ant. is in here, move it eventually
Origin: Pectoralis Major
Clavicular Head: anterior surface of medial half of clavicle
Sternocostal Head: anterior surface of sternum, superior six costal cartilages, and aponeurosis of external oblique muscle
Insertion: Pectoralis Major
Lateral lip of inter tubercular sulcus of humerus
Innervation: Pectoralis Major
Lateral and medial pectoral nerves; Clavicular head (C5,C6), and Sternocostal head (C7, C8, T1)
Action: Pectoralis Major
Adducts and medially rotates humerus; draws the scapula anteriorly and inferiorly.
Acting alone, the clavicular head flexes the humerus and the sternocostal head extends the humerus from a flexed position
Origin: Pectoralis Minor
3rd - 5th ribs near their costal cartilages
Insertion: Pectoralis Minor
Medial boarder and superior surface of coracoid process of scapula
Innervation: Pectoralis Minor
Medial Pectoral Nerve (C8, T1)
Action: Pectoralis Minor
Stabilizes the scapula by drawing it inferiorly and anteriorly against thoracic wall
Origin: Subclavius
Junction of 1st rib and its costal cartilage
Insertion: Subclavius
Inferior surface of middle third of clavicle
Innervation: Subclavius
Nerve to subclavius (C5,C6)
Action: Subclavius
Anchors and depresses clavicle
Origin: Serratus Anterior
External surfaces of lateral parts of 1st - 8th ribs
Insertion: Serratus Anterior
Anterior surface of medial border of scapula
Innervation: Serratus Anterior
Long Thoracic Nerve (C5, C6, C7)
Action: Serratus Anterior
Protracts the scapula and holds it against thoracic wall; rotates scapula
Origin: Deltoid
Lateral 1/3 of clavicle; acrominon and spine of scapula
Insertion: Deltoid
Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Innervation: Deltoid
Axillary nerve (C5, C6)
Action: Deltoid
Clavicular (anterior) part: flexes & medially (internally) rotates arm
Acromial (medial) part: abducts arm
Spinal (posterior) part: extends & laterally (externally) rotates arm
Origin: Teres Major
Posterior surface of inferior angle of the scapula
Insertion: Teres Major
Medial lip of inter tubercular sulcus of humerus
Innervation: Teres Major
Lower Subscapular nerve (C5, C6)
Action: Teres Major
Adducts & medially (internally) rotates arm
Origin: Subscapularis
Subscapular fossa (most of the anterior surface of the scapula)
Insertion: Subscapularis
Lesser tubercle of humerus
Innervation: Subscapularis
Upper and lower subscapular nerves (C5, C6, C7)
Action: Subscapularis
Medially rotates arm
As part of rotator cuff, helps hold head of humerus in glenoid cavity
Origin: Supraspinatus
Supraspinous fossa of scapula
Insertion: Supraspinatus
Superior facet of greater tubercle of humerus
Innervation: Supraspinatus
Suprascapular nerve (C4, C5, C6)
Action: Supraspinatus
Initiates and assist deltoid /c abduction of arm
Acts /c rotator cuff muscles to help hold head of humerus in glenoid cavity
Origin: Infraspinatus
Infraspinous fossa of scapula
Insertion: Infraspinatus
Middle facet of greater tubercle of humerus
Innervation: Infraspinatus
Suprascapular Nerve (C5, C6)
Action: Infraspinatus
Laterally rotates arm
Acts /c other rotator cuff muscles to help hold head of humerus in glenoid cavity
Origin: Teres Minor
Middle part of lateral border of scapula
Insertion: Teres Minor
Inferior facet of greater tubercle of humerus
Innervation: Teres Minor
Axillary nerve (C5, C6)
Action: Teres Minor
Laterally rotates arm
Acts /c other rotator cuff muscles to help hold head of humerus in glenoid cavity
Origin: Triceps Brachii
Long Head: infraglenoid tubercle of scapula
Lateral Head: posterior surface of humerus, superior to radial groove
Medial Head: posterior surface of humerus, inferior to radial groove
Insertion: Triceps Brachii
Proximal end of olecranon of ulna and fascia of forearm
Innervation: Triceps Brachii
radial nerve (C6, C7, C8)
Action: Triceps Brachii
Chief extensor of forearm; long head resists dislocation of humerus; especially important during adduction
Origin: Platysma
Subcutaneous tissue of infraclavicular and supraclavicular regions
Insertion: Platysma
Base of mandible; skin of cheek and lower lip; angle of mouth (modiolus); orbicularis oris
Innervation: Platysma
Cervical branch of the facial n. (CN VII)
Action: Platysma
Depresses mandible (against resistance); tenses skin of inferior face and neck (conveying tension and stress)
