O & I: Hip Flexor Muscles (Ant. Thigh) Flashcards
Origin: Pectineus
Superior pubic ramus
Insertion: Pectineus
Pectineal line of femur, just inferior to lesser trochanter
Innervation: Pectineus
Femoral nerve (L2, L3); may receive a branch from obturator nerve
Action: Pectineus
adducts and flexes thigh; assists with medial rotation of thigh
Origin: Sartorius
anterior superior iliac spine and superior part of notch inferior to it
Insertion: Sartorius
Pes Anserine Superior part of medial surface of tibia
Innervation: Sartorius
femoral nerve (L2, L3)
Action: Sartorius
flexes, abducts, and laterally rotates thigh at hip joint; flexes leg at knee joint, (medially rotating leg when knee is flexed)
Origin: Iliopsoas
Lumbar vertebrae T12-L5, iliac crest, iliac fossa, and sacrum
Insertion: Iliopsoas
lesser trochanter via fused tendon
Innervation: Iliopsoas
anterior rami of L1-L3
Action: Iliopsoas
Flexion of the hip joint (as in lifting the lower limb when walking), flexion of the trunk. Also important in posture — acting inferiorly, flexes the trunk (as in raising the trunk from the supine position to the sitting position)
