Q

Origin: Erector Spinae

A

Arises by a broad tendon from the posterior part of the iliac crest, posterior surface of the sacrum, sacro-iliac ligaments, sacral and inferior lumbar spinous processes, and supraspinous ligament

Q

Insertion: Erector Spinae

A

Iliocostalis: (3 parts lumborum, thoracic, cervicis) fibers run superiorly to angles of lower ribs and cervical transverse process

Longissimus: (3 parts thoracic, cervicis, capitis) fibers run superiorly to ribs between tubercles and angles to transverse process in thoracic and cervical regions and to mastoid process of temporal bone

Spinalis: (3 parts thoracic, cervicis, capitis) fibers run superiorly to spinous process in upper thoracic region and to cranium

8
Q

Action: Erector Spinae

A

Acting Bilaterally: extend vertebral column and head; as back is flexed, control movement via eccentric contraction

Acting unilaterally: laterally flex vertebral column

Q

Origin: Multifidus

A

arises from posterior sacrum, posterior superior iliac spine of the ilium, aponeurosis of erector spinae, sacra-iliac ligaments, mammillary processes of lumbar vertebrae, transverse processes of T1-T3, articular processes of C4-C7

10
Q

Insertion: Multifidus

A

thickest in lumbar region; fibers pass obliquely superomedially to entire length of spinous processes, located 2-4 segments superior to proximal attachment

A

Between the superior and inferior nuchal lines of the occipital bone medially

23
Q

Innervation: Semispinalis capitis

A

Posterior rami of spinal nerves

24
Q

Action: Semispinalis capitis

A

Unilaterally — extends and laterally rotates head to opposite side

Bilaterally — extends head

28
Q

Action: Semispinalis Cervicis

A

Unilaterally — extends and laterally rotates head to opposite side

Bilaterally — extends head

29
Q

Origin: Rotatores

A

Arise from transverse processes of vertebrae; best developed in thoracic region

30
Q

Insertion: Rotatores

A

Fibers run superomedially attaching to spinous process of vertebra immediately (brevis) or 2 segments (longus) superior to vertebra attachment.

31
Q

Innervation: Rotatores

A

Posterior rami of spinal nerves

32
Q

Action: Rotatores

A

Stabilize vertebrae and assist /c local extension and rotators movements of vertebral column; may function as organs of proprioception
