What is the definition of ‘ethnic minority’?
- a group within a community which differs ethnically from the main population
Why is it essential to study ethnicity as a nutritionist?
- many people differ in their cultural, linguistic, religious and behavioural traits hence they are likely to have differing dietary habits
As a nutritionist, what steps can you take to cater for those who differ in ethnicity and therefore dietary habits?
- promote positive aspects of traditional diets
- encourage consumption of fruit and veg to fit in with traditional diets
- encourage cooking practices that reduce sugar and fat consumption
