NUTRITION & EXERCISE - ATP Resynthesis Flashcards
Relationship between energy demands and nutritional requirements pre-, during and post-competitive sporting activity Fats Proteins Carbohydrates Glycaemic index (low and high)
1
Q
What is ATP
A
Is a chemical compound called adenosine triphosphate that produced energy for movement
2
Q
Is there a large or small amount of ATP
and if so what needs to be done to it
A
- A very small amount is stored
- So it needs to continually be resynthesized for it to be able to keep working again
3
Q
Apart from food being broken down & either used immediately, excreted what else does it do and what can it be used for
A
- Stored as chemical energy
- Used to convert to mechanical energy for muscular contractions
4
Q
Energy systems list 3
A
- ATP/CP
- Lactic Acid
- Aerobic energy system
5
Q
Fuel Source list 4
A
- Fats
- Protein
- Carbohydrates
- Creatine Phosphate
