What should be the PPCP considerations regarding pediatrics?
Patients age: some stuff you have to be a certain age for
Weight: dose is in mg/kg
Caregiver factors: literacy/health literacy
Childcare or school schedules: staying on the right schedule
Assess for any exclusions for self-care or adverse effects
Make sure appropriate dosing and administration
What is the most accurate dosing for pediatrics?
Using mL
We use oral syringe for most accurate form of administration
What is the difference between an open flow restrictor and a closed flow restrictor?
Open flow restrictor is a plastic disc with a small hole in the center and you can squeeze the bottle and medicine will come out. Closed flow restrictor does not allow medication come out when bottle is squeezed
What are considerations for drug administration in pediatrics?
Medication is never candy
How to manage “bad tastes”
How can the caregiver involve the child
When not to use chewable tablets
What is the dosing for acetaminophen in pediatrics younger than 12?

What is the pediatric dosing of ibuprofen in pediatrics 12 and younger
5-10mg/kg every 6-8 hours as needed. No not exceed 300mg per dose up to 4 doses or 40mg/kg/day. NO more than 1200mg in 24 hours
What are some non-drug treatments for teething discomfort?
Gum massage, cold teething ring, damp and frozen washcloth for counter pressure
AVOID teething necklaces and high sugar/carb foods
How long can teething discomfort last for?
8 days for each tooth
What are drug treatment options
Acetaminophen(preferred) or ibuprofen. FOLLOW appropriate doses and dosage forms and administrations for age
AVOID topical agents
