When should you not self-treat a bug bite
history of hypersensitivity to insect bites or symptoms distant from area of bite

What non-pharmacologic options can a patient do to relieve bite symptoms
apply ice 10 min on/off at a time
avoid scratching
comfortable clothing
nail polish over chigger location
How do you remove a tick
- use clean, fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin’s surface as possible
- pull upward with steady, even pressure. Do not twist or jerk the tick
- After removing the tick, thoroughly clean the bite area and your hands with rubbing alcohol or soap and water
- Never crush tick with your fingers. Dispose of live tick by putting it in alcohol, placing in a sealed container, wrapping tightly in tape, flushing down the toilet

Repellants (skin-safe or pre-treat clothing)
