WIFE REFUSING DISCHARGE TO WARD.

What Mr A would have wanted in this situation. What would he think?
What is motivating Maria’s decision? Is this in her best interest or the patient’s?
Recognise ur own anxty ( making value judgement on who deserves the bed)
Mr A recent conditin ( dementia).
Think abt the man he used to be & the probability tht he won’t survive this hsptl stay.
What other things to include in discussion to avoid single issue negotiation? ( offering to review him regularly on the ward).

Express the understanding of Wife POView
Explain the anticipated course ( it likely Mr A will not survive hsptlzn) & it is not possible to keep him in ICU indefinitely.
Explain the plan not to readmit Mr A to ICU shld he deteiorate again.

We are wondering whether further stay in ICU is really achieving very much at this stage.
I am pleased that u appreciate the care we have been able to provide in ICU but can u accept that Mr A cannot stay in ICU INDEFINITELY
