Q

What are the engine limitations of the NG during T/O?

A

Torque = 44.34
ITT = 850

5 min max!
Remebre, there is no T/O or MCP indications on the instruments, so you will need to monitor the engine parameters constantly!

9
Q

Why should the RPM not fall below 950 when on the ground?

A

Because this will cause vibrations that might damage the airframe.

10
Q

What’s the normal startup procedure for the NG?

A
  1. Starter button –> PRESS
  2. Ng > 13%
  3. Condition lever –> GROUND IDLE
  4. Fuel pumps –> VERIFY GREEN

11
Q

What’s a warm start and what is the procedure?

A

A warm start is when the ITT is higher than 150°C.
Wait until ITT < 150°C before attempting to start the engine.

12
Q

What’s a cold start and what is the procedure?

A

A warm start is when the OIL temperature is below 5°C.
When Ng reaches 13%, select FLIGHT IDLE on the condition lever until Ng reaches 50%, then set the CL to GROUND IDLE.

13
Q

Why must we test the fuel pumps before the engine start?

A

Because on the NG, the green PUMP indication, only indicates the relay switch position but it DOES NOT mean that the pumps are effectively working.
So before engine start, we have to set the pumps to ON and verify that we can hear the pumps activating.
This will confirm that they are effectively running.

14
Q

How do you know that the fuel filter is clogged and that the bypass is in use?

A
  1. A red indicator button will have popped up on the bypass.
  2. The fuel filter drain should show traces of contamination.

15
Q

What is the FCU?

A

The Fuel Control Unit.
It is a complec system of pistons and valves that modulates the amount of fuel sent to the engine based on the position of the CPL and on P3 (the pressure between the centrifugal compressor and the combustion chamber), to protect against engine surge in case of low pressure.

16
Q

How does the torque limiter work?

A

It monitors oil pressure to keep the torque below 44.3 PSI.
It achieves this by opening a valve that will reduce Py which in turn will simulate a drop in P3 and trick the FCU into reducing the fuel flow which will result in a reduction of the torque.

17
Q

When should you use Prist?

A

When OAT < 0°C

18
Q

What’s the required Prist concentration?

A

Between 0.06% and 0.15%
A good middle ground is to aim for 0.1% which corresponds to 1L of Prist per 1000L of fuel or 500mL per 500L.

19
Q

What’s the max reverse blade angle?

A

-17.5°

20
Q

Which systems are connected to the condition lever?

A
  1. The boost pumps
  2. The prop feather
  3. The pressurization system (in case of a WoW failure)
21
Q

When should the CL be set to FLIGHT IDLE in normal operations?

A

From line up to landing.

22
Q

Which systems will become unavailable when using the MOR?

A
  1. Ng governor
  2. Torque limiter
  3. Nf governor
23
Q

What shoul you pay particularly attention to while operating the MOR?

A
  1. PCL must be in idle position
  2. MOR must be moved slowly so as to avoid ITT exceedance
24
Q

When should you use the MOR?

A
  1. In case of PARTIAL PWR loss
  2. Ng > 50%
  3. Fuel flow > 90 lbs / hour
25
Q

What is the minimum Ng value that you should maintain while operating the MOR in cruise?

A

65%

26
Q

What is the minimum Ng value that you should maintain while operating the MOR from top of descent to touchdown?

A

75%

27
Q

Can you taxi using the MOR?

A

No!

28
Q

By which factor shall the LDG distance be multiplied when using the MOR?

A

LDR x 2

29
Q

What are some of the main systems that are NOT present on the NG?

A
  1. Datalink / CPDLC
  2. Bank tactile feedback
  3. PLS
  4. A/T
  5. TCAS II
  6. Fuel temperature probe
  7. Automatic YD cancellation
30
Q

How long can the PCL be maintained in the same position while in the beta range?

A

There is no limitation on the NG
