What’s CPDLC?
A
Controller Pilot Data Link Communications.
It is a direct line of text message communication between the pilots and the ATC.
ACARS is one form of CPDLC.

1. Operator is approved

What are the main advantages of the CPDLC?
A
- Not reliant on the quality of the aural radio transmission to deliver and understand the message.
- Allows for decongestion of the radio frequencies.

A
Revert to voice communications.

When should you send a logon request for CPDLC?
A
10 to 15 min prior to entering the airspace in which you intend to use CPDLC.
