1988- large piece of legislation, lots of money(£5bill) invested which aimed to get unemployed NEETs back into work. They gained skills, training, subsidised employment and voluntary work -but exploitative as if refused, took away benefits and were often paid low wayes
Vocational gcses/alevel
Greater variety of subjects you can study so more choice for pupils e.g. applied science for technical jobs, normally for those not achievement in normal academic route , focused on applied education
14-29 diplomas
For 6th form students which combine academic and vocational trading A range of qualifications in different vocations or ‘lines of learning’ e.g. creative and media, travel and tours in, engineering

Sure start-1988
Provide additional funding at nursery level to those from most deprived areas. Centres set up with additional support to parents as looked after children aged 0-4, also did hearing and vision tests, engaged in sensory play and reading activities to help children get a sure start to education
EMAs
Students from deprived areas received money each week to help them achieve qualifications in FE via travel, textbooks and trips. Under 20,817-30/week, 21-25,000-20/week, 25-31,000-10/week
EAZ
198m-brought together groups of schools with parents, commuting groups and businesses to attract sponsorship and investment and also to share good practice between successful and failing schools by sharing techniques and resources to improve equality in less successful schools

Aimed to promote inclusion in inner cities, targeted secondary schools and then primary. Gave funding for things like computers,mentors and grants

Encouraged young people to study more subjects over 2 years and combine academic and vocational study. New gcses and alevel with choice of modular or end of year assessment, introduced new subjects e.g. sociology, psychology, had the chance to resist exams. Also students had to undertake ‘key skills’ to prepare for work, learned excel to have a better tech proficient work force

Teaching and higher education act 1988 introduced tuition fees in the uk to raise standards. It was means tested based on amount family earns and also maintain W loan for living expenses. Initallty 1000, then 3000, now 9000
