Neurology Flashcards
Environmental stress checklist - factors that affect flying. Example component that affect medial conditions.
Altitude: hypoxia and pressure change Acceleration Motion sickness Disorientation Vibration Noise Thermal stress Smoke/fumes Fatigue Time zone shifts
Work through this checklist to brake down how the environment will affect a particular condition
Neurology schema. Appropriate to determining risk of condition
Consider if disease is static or progressive or episodic
Can it recur if static
if progressive the what is risk of incapacitation
Traumatic brain injury and aeromedical disposition
Risk of post traumatic epilepsy
Risk based on
- PTA
- LOC
- Skull #
- Depressed #
- temp neuro deficit
- contusion/bleed
- permanent deficits
- penetrating injury
MInimum 6 month TMUFF after mild with no risk factors
if severe then permanent disqualification
Case by case but
- moderate 6-24 months
- severe 2-5 years
Syncope aeromedical disposition for military
at initial entry
- Infrequent episodes of simple vast-vagal syncope is not disqualifying if explained cause
- recurrent is disqualifying
Trained aircrew
- case by case need MECR
Headache/migraine aeromedical disposition for military and CASA
Military
- minimum 3 months TMUFF after 1st ever headache
- single migraines with last 3 year disqualifying for recruits
- any history of recurrent migraines is disqualifying
- if uncomplicated mild headache that responds to simple analgesia can be considered fit
CASA
- all cases assessed individually
