Types of site Hazards
Physical: fire, flammable, stored energy, aircraft systems, explosives ordnance
Material: Residue, dust, fibres, dangerous goods cargo, radioactive
Psychological: trauma, pressure, stress
Chemical: Liquid oxygen, fuels and lubricants
Biological: Blood borne pathogens, environment (Animals)
Working Environment: Travel/fatigue, weather, security, location, work pressures
Role of environmental health
Assist in development of emergency response plan
Assist incident site commander in hazard identification/risk assessment
- env/personal monitoring(chemical, heat etc)
- Env management issues
- Control - PPE requirements
Location and management of decontamination stations and PPE donning
- Records - who, what, where, how long etc
- personal hygiene

Aircraft state Intact = level 1 Breakup - no fire = 2/3 Break up Fire = 3 High speed impact, no fire = 3 High speed impact - fire = 3
Level 1 PPE
Protect: airborne contaminants such as composite fibre or fibreglass fragments
Long sleeve shirt/long pants

Protective coverall with hood and dust mask
Level 2 PPE
Protection: airborne contaminants like composite fibre, and chemicals that may be an irritant to the eyes
Half face respirator and googles
Or
Full face respirator
Protective coveralls with hood
Puncture proof gloves and nitrile surgical gloves (liquid contaminant
Safety boots
Level 3 PPE
Protection: wide range of threats such as burned composite fibre, toxic fumes from combustion plastic and metals and contamination from toxic liquids
Full face respirator with suitable filter cartridge
Protective coveralls with sealable front, legs and hood - all joints sealed with tape
Puncture proof gloves and nitrile surgical gloves for liquid. Contaminants
Safety boots with over boots
