Neurologic Examination II Flashcards
Grading of Spinal Reflexes
0 = Absent
1+ = Depressed/Hyporeflexia
2+ = Normal
3+ = Exaggerated/Hyperreflexia
4+ = Exaggerated/Hyperreflexia with clonus
-One of the important localizing & prognostic tasks
-Evaluates the integrity of the components of the reflex arc and descending motor neuron pathways
Spinal Reflex examination
Lower Motor Neuron (LMN) diseases
decreased or absent reflexes
Upper Motor Neuron (UMN) diseases
normal or increased reflexes
Normal response for Biceps reflex
- location
Flexion of the elbow
- elbow is slightly extended and the finger is struck with the reflex hammer
refers to a sustained after-contraction or quivering that may be seen or felt when performing spinal reflexes, especially patellar and crossed extensor reflexes.
clonus
The reflex that is elicited by pin-prick stimulus to the skin over the back, beginning at the lumbosacral region and continuing cranially.
Panniculus reflex
Lesion localization in the Brainstem
CN function: Ab
