What’s another name for neurolemmocytes?
Schwann cells
What covers peripheral axons in two different ways and repairs after an injury?
Schwann cells
What do myelinating Schwann cells form?
They form a sheath around peripheral axons.
What is the outer surface of a Schwann cell called?
Its called a neurilemma
What dies Schwann cells do?
It prevents contact from interstitial fluid.
Describe how myelinating Schwann cells myelinates an axon.
Step 1- A Schwann cell surrounds a portion of the axon with a groove of its cytoplasm
Step 2- The Schwann cell then begins to rotate around the axon
Step 3- As the Schwann cell rotates, myelin is wound around the axon in multiple layers, forming a tightly packed membrane.
What does nonmyelinating Schwann cell do?
It encloses segments of many unmyelinated axons. The axons then come to lie in separate membrane folds at the periphery of the cell.
What do nonmyelinating Schwann cells stabilize and isolates?
Schwann cells stabilize the positions of the axons and isolate them from chemicals in the surrounding fluid.
