Neuroanatomy_Acland Flashcards
What divides anterior & middle cranial fossae?
Sphenoid ridges
What divides middle & posterior cranial fossae?
Petrous Temporal bones
Hole in the Tentorium that the brainstem passes through?
Tentorial incisure
Uncus lies just lateral to this on either side
Most anterior part of falx is attached to what?
Crista Galli
Anterior attachment site(s) of the Tentorium?
They run along the petrous temporal bones on either side & meet at the Posterior Clinoid Process
Certain parts of the subarachnoid space are notably wider, these spaces are called ___. Where are they located?
Cisterns
- above & below the anterior parts of the cerebellum
- above the anterior part of the brainstem
What are the 4 bony processes that enclose the pituitary fossa?
Clinoid processes
dura bridges over these, smoothing them out
What important structures are found just lateral to the pituitary fossa on either side, just beneath (inferior to) the dura?
Cavernous Sinuses
- just lateral to this is the Trigeminal Cave w/ the trigeminal ganglia
What are the 4 lobes of the lateral ventricle?
Anterior Lobe
Body
Posterior Lobe
Inferior Lobe
What is the vascular tissue seen on the roof of the 3rd ventricle?
Choroid Plexus
produces CSF
Where is the Choroid plexus & what does it do?
Roof of the 3rd ventricle & passes through the inter ventricular foramen into the Lateral ventricle.
Produces CSF into both the Lateral & 3rd ventricles.
Where does the CSF leave the ventricles to spread throughout the rest of the CNS?
@ the inferior 4th ventricle, through the:
- Medial aperture, just below the cerebellum (where it abuts the medulla) & goes inferiorly to the spine
- Lateral apertures, just below the cerebellar peduncles
What runs vertically just posterior to the Optic Chiasm?
Infundibulum (stalk of the pituitary)
What 2 structures lie posterior to the Infundibulum/Optic Chiasm?
2 Mamillary Bodies
The pituitary fossa bulges downward into the _____ sinus.
Sphenoid
