Neuro14 Flashcards
Brain Stem
Which cranial nerves lied medially at brain stem?
CN III, VI, XII
“3 (x2) = 6 (x2) = 12”
What cranial nerve arises dorsally and immediately decussates?
CN IV
“tricky trochlear”
What is the function of the Pineal gland?
Melatonin secretion
Circadian rhythms
What is the function of the Superior colliculi (AKA Tectum)?
Conjugate Vertical gaze center
“your eyes are above your ears, and the Superior Colliculus (Visual) is above the Inferior Colliculus (Auditory)”
What is the function of the Inferior colliculi?
Auditory
“your eyes are above your ears, and the Superior Colliculus (Visual) is above the Inferior Colliculus (Auditory)”
What is the Medial Geniculate Nucleus?
Part of the auditory thalamus and represents the thalamic relay between the inferior colliculus (IC) and the auditory cortex (AC)
What is the Lateral Geniculate Nucleus?
primary relay center for visual information received from the retina of the eye. The LGN is found inside the thalamus of the brain.
What is Perinaud syndrome?
Paralysis of Conjugate vertical gaze – Can’t look UP
-Lesion in Superior Colliculi
*often due to a Pinealoma
