Neuro objective assessment Flashcards
What are some neuro impairments?
Weakness Overuse (⬆️tone) Hypersensitivity - fear of moving Contracture's - stiff deformity Altered perception - feeling unsafe Habitual way of standing - habit
What does observation look at?
Bos
Asymmetry
Overuse/underuse?
Muscle work to maintain posture
What does AROM look for?
Look at functional movement and judge why there is immobility
What could AROM immobility be due to?
Joint stiffness Atrophy and weakness Degeneration of articular surface Osteoporotic changes to bone Psychological
What are the types of rehab and match them to a condition
Full recovery - TIA
Some recovery - stroke
Slow deterioration - MS and Parkinson’s
Fast deterioration - MND
What do reflexes test?
Test sensory and motor neurones together
What are the possible reflex findings?
No reflex
Reduced reflex
Hyper excitable reflex
What are the sensory tests for neuro patients?
Stereognosis - differentiate objects
Sharp-blunt - sharp or blunt prick
Two point test - two or one point prick
Light touch - identify where you’re touching
Proprioception - mimic movement with other limb
Temperature - hot or cold liquid
Coordination - finger-nose or heel-shin
What are the measurement tools for sensory testing?
Fugl-Meyer sensation
Nottingham sensory assessment
What are the sensory pathways?
Dorsal column - tactile sensation
Spinothalamic - pain
