Nervous System - Parts of the Eye Flashcards
1
Q
Iris -
A
coloured sheets of muscle which controls amount of light that enters the eye by changing the size of the pupil
2
Q
Pupil -
A
The hole in the middle of the iris through which light enters enters the eye
3
Q
Cornea -
A
clear area of the sclera which helps to refract the light a little onto the retina
4
Q
Sclera -
A
- tough, strong outer layer of eye which protects the internal working parts of the eye
- has many blood vessels to supply retina with oxygen and food
5
Q
Lens -
A
- clear disc which refracts majority of light onto the retina - fine focus
6
Q
Vitreous humour -
A
- jelly - like fluid which helps keep the structure/shape of the eyeball
- refracts light onto the retina
7
Q
Retina -
A
- Layer of light sensitive cells contain receptor cells and send impulses to the optic nerve
8
Q
Ciliary muscles -
A
- circular ring of muscle that change the shape of the lens by relaxing and contracting
9
Q
Suspensory ligaments -
A
- Connect the ciliary muscles to the lens
- hold the lens in place.
10
Q
Aqueous humour -
A
- **fluid* that fills the front of the eye
- helps to refract light onto retina
