Nervous System Flashcards
What is the formation of the face directed to?
The neural tube formation
What is the neural tube separate from?
The dorsal body cavity
What is the neural tube surrounded by?
Bone (skull and vertebral column)
What are the 3 layers of the developing baby?
- Endoderm (inner)
- Mesoderm (middle)
- Ectoderm (Outer)
What does the ectoderm differentiates into?
Neuroectoderm
*neural tube separates from the ectoderm
As specific neurons for the brain differentiate what will happen?
- Lose mystic capability
- Will not tolerate an o2 debt
What do skull bones form out of?
Mesenchymal cells
*No cartilage
*Linked by dense irregular connective
What is the layers of the skull?
Outer cortical (better at accepting energy)
Layer of spongy bone
Inner cortical bone
Why is the center spongy bone?
Will absorb energy so the inner table doesn’t fracture
What is the tentorium cerebelli?
The marker between the cerebral and brain stem
What are the layers of the BBB?
Dura mater- sticky directly to the bone, doubles as periosteum
Arachnoid mater- Reticular connective tissue, good for fluid movement and for cells to flow
Pia mater- stick to brain
What are astrocytes?
Wrap around the blood vessel and will create the BBB
*which is a barrier that prevents things from damage
What are Afferent neurons?
Going towards the CNS
What are Efferent neurons?
going away from CNS
What is the myelin sheath?
Insulating layer that forms around nerves including those in the brain and spinal cord
