What are the common sites of Mongolian blue spots?
Lower back
Buttocks
What causes Mongolian blue spots?
Entrapment of melanoctyes in the dermis of the developing embryo
What age should Mongolian blue spots resolve?
4 years
What is erythema toxicum?
Common benign rash occurring in the first few days after birth
What are the clinical features of erythema toxicum?
Erythematous macules
Papules
Pustules
Lesions last <24 hours
Common on face/trunk/limbs
What are milia?
Small raised white bumps containing keratin
What are the common sites of milia?
Nose
Scalp
Face
Upper trunk
What advice should be given about milia?
Resolve within a few weeks of birth
What is cradle cap?
Infantile inflammation + dry skin of the scalp
What is the management of cradle cap?
Usually self-limiting (few weeks)
Use of moisturiser
What is heat rash?
Itching raised rash due to increased temperature
What areas does heat rash tend to effect?
Neck
Armpits
Nappy area
How can heat rash be managed?
Keep baby cool
Self-limiting
