What is the pathophysiology of bullous pemphigoid?

A

Attack on basement membrane of epidermis by IgG +/-IgE and T lymphocyres

Target type XVII collagen - associated with hemidesmosomes

How is bullous pemphigoid distinguished from pemphigus vulgaris?

A

Bullous pemphigoid = Nikolsky -ve

Pemphigus vulgaris = Nikolsky +ve
