Neck Flashcards
What is the sternocleidomastoid superior attachment?
Lateral surface of mastoid process of temporal bone and lateral half of superior nuchal line
Where is the sternocleidomastoid inferior attachment?
Sternal head:anterior surface of manubrium of sternum
Clavicular head:superior surface of medial third of clavicle
What is the innervation of the sternocleidomastoid?
Spinal accessory nerve XI, C2, C3 (pain and proprioception)
What is the action of the sternocleidomastoid?
Laterally flex neck, extends neck, flex cervical vertebrae
What is the origin of the anterior scalene?
Anterior tubercles of transverse processes of C3-C6
What is the insertion of the anterior scalene?
1st rib
What is the innervation of the anterior scalene?
Cervical spinal nerves C4-C6
What are the main actions of the anterior scalene?
Flex neck laterally, elevate rib during forced inspiration
Phrenic nerve?
C3,C4,C5 keep the man alive
What is the origin of the middle scalene?
Posterior tubercles of transverse processes of C4-C7
What is the insertion of the middle scalene?
Superior surface 1st rib, posterior to groove for subclavian artery
What is the innervation for the middle scalene?
Anterior rami of cervical spinal nerves
What is the main actions of the middle scalene?
Flexes neck laterally, elevate 1st rib during forced inspiration
What is the origin of the posterior scalene?
Posterior tubercles of transverse processes of C4-C6
What is the insertion of the posterior scalene?
External border of 2nd rib
What is the innervation of the posterior scalene?
Anterior rami of cervical spinal nerves C7 and C8
What are the posterior scalene main actions?
Flexes neck laterally, elevates 2nd rib during forced inspiration
What is the anterior portion of the lateral cervical triangle?
posterior border of SCM
What is the posterior portion of the lateral cervical triangle?
anterior border of trapezius
What is the superior portion of the lateral cervical triangle?
merging of SCM and trapezius
What is the inferior portion of the lateral cervical triangle?
clavicle (between SCM and trapezius)
What is roof of the lateral cervical triangle?
investing layer of deep cervical fascia; platysma
What is the floor of the lateral cervical triangle?
muscles covered by prevertebral layer of deep cervical fascia
