Point on the centerline about which the ship turns when the rudder is put over
What is a Turning Circle?
The path followed by the ships pivot point when making a 360 degree turn
What is True Bearing?
Bearing in relation to true north
What is Relative Bearing?
Bearing in relation to own ship
What is DIW?
Dead in Water - No propulsion or sails
What is Head On?
A situation where 2 vessels will meet bow to bow
What is Crossing?
A situation where 2 vessels will have to maneuver to safely pass each other
What is Overtaking?
One vessel approaching another slower vessel from behind
What is Stand On?
The vessel that doesn’t have to maneuver in a crossing or overtaking situation
What is Give Way?
The vessel that does maneuver in a crossing or overtaking
