HOW MANY SWITCHBOARDS ARE THERE AND WHERE ARE THEY LOCATED
10 switchboards 1SG, 1SA, 1SB; 2SG, 2SA, 2SP, 2SB; 3SG, 3SA, 3SB.
SG, and SA switchboards are located in the spaces with the generators.
Aux 1, Main 2 and 3 generator room
SB’s have their own spaces 1 is in the GSE shop, 2 is by the post office and 3 is by 3MC’s office
HOW MANY LOAD CENTERS ARE THERE AND HOW WOULD YOU FIND THEM
The ship has 22 Load Centers. In order to find them use the numbers. The first number is forward or aft. It goes from 1-5. If it starts with a 6 it is on the ships superstructure.
The next identifier is the second number, 1 and 3 are starboard, 2, and 4 are port
For example, load center 24 is forward and port side. Load center 43 is aft starboard side
WHAT ARE THE GENERATORS RATED AT?
450 VOLTS
60 HERTZ
3 PHASES
4,800 AMPS
3,000 KILOWATTS
.8 POWER FACTOR; this means that our generator loses 20% of its power to heat transfer
WHAT ARE ZEDS AND WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT
ZEDS stand for Zonal Electrical Distribution System, they are important because it allows for the transfer of power from one side of the ship to the other. In a lesson learned from the attack on USS Cole, the ship was struck on one side which interrupted their entire distribution system. If Chung-Hoon was to take a hit to the port side, all the power for VITAL equipment would shift to the starboard side and vice versa.
WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF AUTOMATIC LOAD SHED
Load shed is designed to prevent over working the generators.
Stage 1 occurs at 3000 kw at 100 milla-seconds. This stage dumps all non-vital equipment
Stage 2 occurs 5 seconds after stage 1 if the load does not decrease, this stage dumps Air Conditioning Units

Electrical Plant Control Console; located in CCS next to the PACC

There are 2 of each and they are located in fwd and aft power conversion rooms
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF ABT’S AND MBT’S
These two systems allow for power sources to be shifted from a normal source of power, to an alternate source of power in the even we lose power to one side of the ship or the other.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF DEGAUSSING
Degaussing is a system designed to reduce the ships influence on the earth’s magnetic field by sending Direct Current through cables wrapped around the ship.” Degaussing keeps us magnetically invisible from magnetic seeking mines.

4 COILS:
1. A –Coil
2. M-Coil
3. FP-QP coil
4. FI-QI coil

WHERE ARE THE DEGAUSSING POWER SUPPLY UNITS LOCATED
All four power supply units are located in compartment 2-240-0-Q, immediately left of the trash room
WHERE ARE THE CONTROL PANELS LOCATED FOR DEGAUSSING
The main control panel for degaussing is located in CCS next to the EPCC.
The remote control panel for degaussing is located on the bridge
