ELECTRONIC WARFARE Flashcards
Electronic Support (ES):
Passive detection through the use of the electromagnetic spectrum
Electronic Protect (EP):
Protect our use of the electromagnetic spectrum
Electronic Attack (EA):
Attack or degrade the enemy the ability to utilize the electromagnetic spectrum
Electronic Warfare Console Operator:
Evaluates all ES via the SLQ-32, able to fire Nulka and chaff
Electronic Warfare Supervisor
Correlates all ES received from the EWCO to the ADS picture
Primary Mission:
Anti-ship Missile Defense
Warfare Commander
Information Warfare Commander, normally stationed onboard aircraft carriers within a Command Strike Group, call sign QUEBEC CONTROL
Nulka
Primary decoy, creates electronic signature away from the ship, rocket launched
MK 214 Seduction
Creates a physical signature via cloud of metal shavings
MK 245 Giant IR
Five sub munitions of white phosphorous, creates a heat signature
Locations to fire chaff
CIC via the SLQ-32, or the Bridge via the Bridge Launcher Control Panels
Locations to fire Nulka
CIC via the SLQ-32
Location of launchers
02 deck level, aka the Chaff Decks, directly below FWD Stack
Chaff loadout
6 rounds per launcher, 6 launchers total, 36 rounds can be loaded
Nulka loadout:
2 rounds per launcher, 2 launchers per side, 4 launchers total, 8 rounds can be loaded
EMCON ALPHA
Total silence
EMCON ALPHA 1/ALPHA 2
Limited EM or Acoustics authorized
EMCON BRAVO
Satellite avoidance
EMCON BRAVO 1/BRAVO 2
Deny foreign sensors
EMCON CHARLIE
Prevent targeting of HVU
EMCON DELTA
Least restrictive, essential emissions only
AN/SLQ-32B(V)2
Provides ES by detecting and processing emissions from radars (sea, land, air, and subsurface). Does not give a range to a contact
Rates the stand watch on SLQ-32: CTT
Antenna: Located below bridge wings Port and Starboard
Equipment rack: Located in Radar Room 1
Heat Exchanger: Located in Radar Room 1, closed circuit loop that uses ship’s chilled water, reservoir of propylene glycol, and ship’s Low Pressure (LP) air
SSX-1 ANTENNA
In-depth ELINT analysis
AN/SLA-10B
Ownship Radar Blanker
Primary: Prevents the SLQ-32 from detecting ownship radars (ex. SPS-73, SPS-67, SPY-1D, CIWS)
Secondary: Can be disabled to monitor ownship EMCON violations
LAMPS
ES collected by helicopter (MH-60) is transmitted via HAWKLINK and can be displayed for analysis on the SLQ-32 screen
Joint Tactical Terminal Maritime (JTT-M):
Near real-time ELINT data, primarily used for Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD)
USS Chung-Hoon is not a BMD ship
Battle Force Electronic Warfare Trainer (BEWT II):
Provides integrated or independent training to SLQ-32 operator
Allows connection between BFTT/ACTS and SLQ-32 for CSTT or other training scenarios
Passive Countermeasure System (PCMS):
Purpose: Reduce radar cross-section (RCS) of the ship, making the ship look smaller on radar
PCMS is a controlled material, and must be disposed of through DRMO
Ship’s Signal Exploitation Space (SSES):
Located in the same passageway as FWD Decon and CSMC (01 level)
Rates that stand watch in SSES: CTR, CTM, CTI (CTI is only when embarked,
CTR and CTM are stationed onboard)
Provides real time indications and warnings (I&W)
