NAV - Wind Effects Flashcards
How is wind expressed? (3)
- 3 figure group (e.g. 360°)
- True North
- Magnetic North when displayed in ATC
What is Wind velocity? (1)
Wind direction + Wind Speed
What 3 vectors affect aircraft behaviour? (3)
- Hdg + TAS
- W/V
- Tk + GS
What is Drift Angle? (2)
- If there was no wind, Hdg & TAS would be the same as TK & GS
- When there is wind, the angle between Hdg & Tk is known as Drift Angle
What is Track made good? (1)
Once airborne, the track that the aircraft actually traces over the ground
What is Track error? (1)
The angle between Required Track and Track Made Good
What is plotting?
Physical calculation of an aircraft’s flight progress by drawing a Triangle of Velocity
What is TAS measured alongside with? (1)
Heading vector
What is GS measured alongside with? (1)
Track vector
What can Heading & Track be measured in? (3)
- True (T)
- Magnetic (M)
- Compass (C)
What equipment can be used to draw vectors on paper? (1)
A CRP-5 Computer
What does the Surface wind at the aerodrome dictate? (2)
- The direction of take-off and landing
- The time and distance is takes to get airborne
How can calculating the headwind & crosswind of a Surface wind be achieved? (3)
- Drawing vectors
- Simple Mental method
- Use of a table (Crosswind component)
How is the Simple Mental Method calculated?
