NAV - Navigation Techniques Flashcards
What is the One in Sixty Rule? (3)
- An angle of 1° will subtend a distance of 1nm over a range of 60nm
- Reliable up to 20°
- If two values are known, the third can be
calculated
How is Altering Heading to Parallel Track achieved? (1)
Altering the heading by an amount equal and opposite to the track error will ensure that the aircraft flies parallel to the original track
After flying a distance of 35nm, a fix is obtained which shows the aircraft to be 2nm starboard of required track
How is Regaining Track any distance ahead achieved? (1)
Track error + Closing Angle = Required Heading Change
An aircraft is found to be 3nm port of required track. After flying a distance of 20nm.
It wishes to regain track at the destination which is 100nm ahead
How is Regaining Track an equal distance ahead and then maintaining Track achieved? (1)
After 10 mins of flight an aircraft is found to be 4nm port of track.
The distance flown is 30nm.
What Flight planning concepts does a Pilot consider when flying from A to B? (6)
- Route
- Altitude
- Safety
- legality
- Feasibility
- Costs
