Natavist Flashcards
Information processing approach
Focuses on study of cognitive processes such as perception, attention, memory and problem solving.
How does nativist differ from Piaget?
Do not agree that changes reflect qualitatively, they live quantitative ones. Lead to increased cognitive efficiency.
4 stages in information processing approach.
Increased with age. Increasing processing capacity Increased processing efficiency Development of rules of problem solving Awareness of cognitive abilities
Study for information processing
Siegler used a balance scale. Children had to predict the position of the weights and if they move, children at different ages used different strategies. These strategies become more complex with age.
Evaluation of information processing.
New teaching methods-reflect on own mental processing. Development of higher order thinking.
Does not offer a comprehensive theory like piaget.
Computer analogy means that emotion, creative, social is not considered.
Object permanence nativist theory
Developed a set of studies to present a procedure to familiarise themselves with a event. Shown a event which is either possible or impossible. If a child is shocked at a impossible event they have object permanence.
